Why HEC Paris matters for Indian career-seekers
Out of the dozen French business schools Kadamb Overseas counsels for, HEC Paris is the only one that consistently appears in global top-five rankings across multiple programme categories. The Financial Times 2026 league tables place HEC at #2 in Europe for the MBA, #2 in Europe for the Master in Management, #4 globally for Executive MBA, and inside the global top 10 for MSc Finance. For Indian families weighing whether to spend INR 1 crore on a foreign degree, that signal cluster matters.
In 12+ years guiding Indian students to Europe, Saumitra Rajput at Kadamb Overseas has observed that HEC carries a particular weight in Indian recruiter circles that older grandes ecoles like ESCP and EDHEC do not. McKinsey India, BCG India, Bain India and the Big 4 strategy arms (Deloitte Monitor, PwC Strategy and, EY-Parthenon, KPMG Strategy) all run HEC-specific events on the Jouy-en-Josas campus. For an Indian B.Tech or B.Com graduate with 3-6 years of experience, an HEC MBA is a credible alternative to IIM-A or IIM-B at roughly comparable cost in INR after Charpak or HEC Foundation funding.
For the pre-experience Indian student, the HEC Master in Management (MiM) is even more interesting. Indian school-leavers from ISB Young Leaders Programme, NMIMS, SRCC, St. Xavier’s Mumbai, Loyola Chennai and IIT undergraduates routinely apply directly after their bachelor’s degree to enter the MiM. The MiM is the historical flagship of HEC Paris, predating the MBA by decades, and is responsible for placing graduates into LVMH, BNP Paribas, Societe Generale, Saint-Gobain and the Mazars-Forvis Mazars-PwC consulting pipeline.
We do not recommend HEC Paris for every Indian applicant. If your bachelor’s CGPA is below 7.5 on 10, or your GMAT is under 660, you are likely to spend INR 12,000 on application fees with a 90 percent rejection probability. Engineering applicants targeting purely technical roles at companies like Airbus, Thales, Dassault, Schneider Electric or STMicroelectronics will get far better placement-cost ratios from CentraleSupelec, Mines Paris, INSA Lyon or our Grenoble INP Engineering Guide. For everyone else who clears the bar, HEC is a serious option.
HEC Paris programmes Indian students apply to
HEC runs a portfolio of 18 distinct degree programmes. The five that account for 95 percent of Indian applications through Kadamb Overseas are listed below.
| Programme | Duration | Language | Indian seats per year | GMAT median | Bachelor profile |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MBA (16-month) | 16 months | English | 30-35 | 690 | 3-8 years work experience |
| Master in Management (Grande Ecole) | 2-3 years | English + French electives | 25-30 | 660 | Fresh graduate, top-10 Indian university |
| MSc International Finance | 12 months | English | 12-15 | 700 | Finance / Engineering, IB internship preferred |
| MSc Strategic Management | 15 months | English | 8-10 | 680 | Consulting / Engineering bachelor |
| MSc Sustainability and Social Innovation | 15 months | English | 5-8 | 650 | Any bachelor with ESG demonstrable interest |
The 16-month MBA is the destination most Indian working professionals research first because of post-study salary visibility. Median HEC MBA grad salary three years post-graduation reached USD 153,000 in the FT 2026 ranking. About 35 percent of every MBA class joins strategy consulting (MBB plus tier-2 like Roland Berger, OC and C, Kearney), 18 percent joins corporate finance and investment banking (Goldman Sachs London, JP Morgan Paris, BNP Paribas, Lazard), and 15 percent moves into luxury, retail and consumer (LVMH, Kering, L’Oreal, Pernod Ricard).
The Grande Ecole Master in Management is structurally different from the MBA. It is a two-to-three year programme combining a foundation year of core management courses with a specialisation year in one of 19 majors (Strategic Management, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, Data Science and Marketing being the largest). MiM students typically take a one-year company internship (called a “cesure”) between foundation and specialisation, frequently in Paris, London, Singapore or Mumbai. This integrated work component is why HEC MiM grads command starting salaries of EUR 55,000-75,000 in Paris despite being only 23-25 years old.
The MSc International Finance is HEC’s most quantitatively demanding programme. Indian applicants from IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Madras, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Roorkee, BITS Pilani, NSUT and DTU dominate this cohort. About 90 percent of MSc IF graduates enter front-office investment banking or quantitative trading roles, with London and Paris being the dominant placement cities. Median salary for the 2025 graduating class was EUR 78,000 base plus EUR 35,000 bonus.
HEC Paris MBA fees, MiM fees and MSc fees in INR for 2026
| Programme | Tuition (full programme) | EUR per year equivalent | INR equivalent at 90 | Mandatory fees | Living cost (16-24 months) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MBA 16-month | EUR 95,800 | NA | INR 86.2 lakh | EUR 2,500 | INR 27-35 lakh |
| MiM Grande Ecole | EUR 49,250 total | EUR 21,500-27,500 | INR 44.3 lakh | EUR 1,800 | INR 32-40 lakh |
| MSc International Finance | EUR 41,500 | NA | INR 37.4 lakh | EUR 1,400 | INR 18-22 lakh |
| MSc Strategic Management | EUR 38,500 | NA | INR 34.7 lakh | EUR 1,400 | INR 22-28 lakh |
| MSc Sustainability and Social Innovation | EUR 38,500 | NA | INR 34.7 lakh | EUR 1,400 | INR 22-28 lakh |
These are sticker-price figures. Around 60 percent of Kadamb-advised HEC admits secure at least one scholarship that reduces the net cost by EUR 5,000-25,000. See the Hidden Costs of European Study for Indian Families guide for the seven invisible expenses (CVEC, OFII tax, health top-up, security deposit, internet contract, mobile contract, transit pass) that add another INR 1.2-1.5 lakh per year to the headline number.
Compared to a US M7 MBA at USD 165,000 (INR 1.37 crore), HEC Paris is roughly 35-40 percent cheaper, gets you into Europe instead of the H-1B lottery, and finishes in 16 months instead of 21-24. For working Indian professionals in their late 20s with a spouse, the time-cost saving alone often closes the case. The MS Germany vs IIM MBA ROI 2026 analysis we ran for last year’s batch is a useful reference for benchmarking.
HEC Paris admission requirements, deadlines and Campus France steps
HEC Paris uses a rolling admission system with four to five rounds per year depending on programme. The deadlines below apply to the September 2026 intake.
| Round | MBA application deadline | MiM application deadline | MSc deadline | Decision in |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | 15 September 2025 | 25 October 2025 | 1 November 2025 | 7 weeks |
| Round 2 | 18 November 2025 | 12 January 2026 | 10 January 2026 | 7 weeks |
| Round 3 | 20 January 2026 | 15 March 2026 | 15 February 2026 | 7 weeks |
| Round 4 | 17 March 2026 | NA | 15 March 2026 | 7 weeks |
Indian applicants must apply in Round 1 or Round 2 to retain realistic scholarship eligibility. By Round 3 the Charpak and Eiffel quotas for Indian nationals are usually exhausted at HEC. By Round 4 only self-funded admits with very strong profiles are considered.
The minimum credentials we recommend Indian applicants meet before paying the EUR 200 application fee are:
- Bachelor’s degree from a UGC-recognised Indian university with cumulative CGPA of 7.5/10 or first-class equivalent. HEC reviewers benchmark Indian transcripts against the WES converter, so a 7.5/10 CGPA translates roughly to a 3.3/4.0 GPA.
- GMAT score of 660+ for MiM and MSc, 680+ for MBA. The class median GMAT for MBA 2025 entry was 690. GRE accepted with equivalent score (320+ for MBA).
- IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 100+, or PTE Academic 65+. HEC also accepts the Duolingo English Test at score 120+, which saves Indian applicants the IELTS booking hassle.
- Two letters of recommendation, with at least one from an academic referee. MBA applicants must submit two professional referees.
- Three to four essays per programme. The current HEC MBA essay set runs to 1,500 words combined.
- One-hour Kira Talent video interview after shortlisting.
- For MBA finalists, a 45-minute panel interview with HEC alumni in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Singapore or Dubai.
After admission, the Campus France process kicks in for visa purposes. Every Indian going to a French university must register on the france-inde.campusfrance.org portal, pay INR 18,500, upload transcripts and admission letter, and attend a video interview. We cover the entire Campus France and post-arrival process in our France Student Visa for Indian Students 2026 deep-dive.
What Indian student profile actually gets admitted to HEC Paris?
In the 2025-26 application cycle, Kadamb Overseas advised 79 Indian applicants to HEC Paris across all programmes. Of those, 22 received admission offers — a 28 percent success rate against the school’s overall 18 percent admit rate. Looking at the 22 admits, the common profile patterns are clear.
The MBA admit profile usually combines a strong undergraduate degree (B.Tech from a top-30 NIRF engineering institution or B.Com from St. Xavier’s, SRCC, Loyola College, Christ University, NMIMS or Symbiosis Pune) with four to six years of progressive work experience at a recognisable employer. The most common pre-MBA employers among our HEC admits are TCS Consulting, Infosys Consulting, Deloitte India, EY India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, Mahindra and Mahindra and Flipkart. International work experience (a stint in Dubai, Singapore or London) is a significant edge.
The MiM admit profile is dominated by school-leavers from a narrow set of feeder universities: IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, BITS Pilani, NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, ISB Young Leaders, NMIMS Mumbai, SRCC, IIM Indore IPM, IIM Rohtak IPM and Loyola Chennai. Median age at MiM entry is 21-22.
MSc admits typically come from the IIT system, with a strong recent uptick in applicants from IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Bangalore, IIIT Delhi and the new IITs at Indore, Hyderabad and Ropar. Pre-Master internships at investment banks, McKinsey India summer programmes, Bain Capability Network, BCG Consulting Internship or research labs at TIFR, IIT, IISc are heavily favoured.
Scholarships, loans and the full funding stack for HEC Paris
The 28 percent of Kadamb-advised Indian admits at HEC Paris translated, in financial terms, to total scholarship awards exceeding EUR 380,000 across the cohort. Here is the funding ladder you should evaluate in order.
1. Charpak Master’s Scholarship (Embassy of France in India). EUR 5,000-10,000 stipend, travel grant, visa fee waiver and CAF housing assistance. Maximum 25-30 Indian Charpak slots are issued across all French universities each year. Deadline typically February. We cover the Charpak application separately in our France Scholarships for Indian Students 2026 compilation.
2. Eiffel Excellence Scholarship (French Government via Campus France). EUR 1,181 per month for the full programme duration plus return airfare and health insurance. This is the most lucrative single scholarship for Indian Master’s students in France. Approximately 400 Eiffel awards are issued globally each year across all French institutions. The Master’s-level Eiffel covers up to two years.
3. HEC Foundation Excellence Scholarship. EUR 14,000-21,000 tuition reduction for top MBA admits, awarded based on merit by an HEC Foundation committee after admission. Approximately 30 percent of MBA admits receive a HEC Foundation award.
4. Forte Foundation Fellowship. Up to USD 50,000 for women MBA admits. Strong fit for Indian women applicants from BITS, IIT or top business schools who can articulate a clear gender-diversity contribution.
5. Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarships. If your HEC programme is part of an EMJMD consortium, you can receive full tuition plus EUR 1,400 per month. Our Erasmus Mundus 2026 Indian Students guide lists every consortium HEC participates in.
6. National Overseas Scholarship (Government of India, Ministry of Social Justice). For SC, ST and OBC students. Covers full tuition plus living allowance of approximately INR 1,15,000 per month.
7. HEC Loan via Societe Generale. Up to EUR 80,000 at approximately 1.49 percent interest for HEC-admitted students. No Indian co-signer required. Most accessible loan facility in the French market for Indian applicants.
8. Prodigy Finance. No-collateral USD loans up to USD 100,000 for HEC Indian admits. Interest rates currently 8.5-10.5 percent. Useful for the gap not covered by Indian education loans.
9. Indian education loans. SBI Global Ed-Vantage, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Avanse, Auxilo and Incred all lend up to INR 1.5 crore for HEC Paris admits. SBI typically offers the lowest rate at 9.6-10.65 percent floating. We cover the lender comparison in detail in our Education Loan Europe 2026 Comparison.
A typical funded HEC MBA stack for a Kadamb-advised Indian student in 2025 looked like this: Charpak EUR 7,500, HEC Foundation EUR 18,000, SBI loan INR 60 lakh at 10.15 percent, family contribution INR 12 lakh, summer internship in Paris EUR 8,000. Net out-of-pocket cost after deducting all scholarships and post-grad salary year-one savings: approximately INR 38 lakh.
Placement, salary and ROI from HEC Paris versus IIM
HEC publishes its placement report annually. The 2025 figures show 94 percent of MBA grads accepting offers within three months of graduation, with median base salary EUR 99,000 (INR 89.1 lakh) plus median sign-on bonus EUR 22,000 (INR 19.8 lakh). The numbers below are the most realistic placement expectations for Indian alumni.
| Function | Median first-year salary EUR | INR equivalent | Top employers for Indians |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strategy consulting | 95,000-115,000 | INR 85-103 lakh | McKinsey Paris, BCG Paris, Bain Paris |
| Tier-2 consulting | 75,000-90,000 | INR 67-81 lakh | Roland Berger, Kearney, OC and C, PwC Strategy and |
| Investment banking | 78,000-95,000 + bonus | INR 70-85 lakh + 40 percent | Goldman Sachs London, JP Morgan, BNP Paribas |
| Luxury and consumer goods | 65,000-78,000 | INR 58-70 lakh | LVMH, Kering, L’Oreal, Pernod Ricard |
| Corporate finance | 65,000-80,000 | INR 58-72 lakh | Total Energies, Saint-Gobain, Schneider Electric |
| Tech product | 70,000-95,000 | INR 63-85 lakh | Criteo, Doctolib, BlaBlaCar, Datadog Paris |
Compare this with IIM-A, IIM-B and IIM-C 2025 average placement: INR 33-35 lakh CTC, with the top quartile reaching INR 60-70 lakh. The HEC median outperforms the IIM median by roughly 2.5x on day-one compensation. However, IIM CTC packages are denominated in INR and avoid the EUR-to-INR conversion risk, and IIM total cost is INR 25-32 lakh against HEC’s INR 86 lakh sticker. The break-even point for an HEC MBA over an IIM MBA is typically year 4-5 post-graduation for an Indian student staying in Europe, and year 3 for those moving to London or Singapore.
For ROI math specific to Indian engineering Master’s applicants, we recommend cross-referencing our European Masters to FAANG Europe Jobs pathway analysis and our EU Blue Card for Indian Master’s Graduates post-study tracking.
HEC Paris vs INSEAD vs ESSEC for Indian applicants
This is the single most-asked comparison in Kadamb Overseas counselling sessions for France-bound MBA applicants. Here is the honest side-by-side.
| Dimension | HEC Paris | INSEAD Fontainebleau | ESSEC Cergy |
|---|---|---|---|
| MBA duration | 16 months | 10 months | 24 months (Global BBA-MIM) |
| Tuition full | EUR 95,800 | EUR 113,000 | EUR 51,000 (MiM) / EUR 89,000 (MBA) |
| Indian intake percent | 20 | 12 | 10-12 |
| Median GMAT | 690 | 710 | 670 |
| Average work experience MBA | 6 years | 6 years | 5 years |
| Median post-MBA salary | EUR 99,000 | EUR 108,000 | EUR 78,000 |
| Placement to MBB consulting | 35 percent | 38 percent | 18 percent |
| FT 2026 Europe MBA rank | 2 | 1 | 8 |
INSEAD is the only school in the world that meaningfully outperforms HEC on the post-MBA salary metric. The trade-off is that INSEAD is 70 percent more expensive and accepts about 12 percent Indians against HEC’s 20 percent. INSEAD also runs only a 10-month MBA — fast for working professionals returning to senior roles, but with less room for the year-long internship that HEC and most US M7 schools build in.
ESSEC suits Indian applicants who target France but find HEC’s GMAT bar (690) too aggressive. ESSEC’s 670 median GMAT is more achievable for many B-school career switchers from Indian backgrounds, and ESSEC’s MiM is roughly 30-40 percent cheaper than HEC’s. ESSEC’s placement into MBB consulting is materially weaker (18 percent vs HEC’s 35 percent), but it places well into Big 4, BNP, Societe Generale, Capgemini and the luxury sector.
For applicants whose primary goal is the IIM-A-style B-school experience in Europe with academic depth, HEC wins. For applicants whose only goal is a fast career pivot with maximum post-MBA pay, INSEAD wins. For applicants who want a France base at lower cost, ESSEC wins.
Life on the Jouy-en-Josas campus
HEC Paris does not sit in central Paris. The main campus is in Jouy-en-Josas, a 320-acre forested suburb 17 km southwest of central Paris. The RER C and Bus 263 connect the campus to Paris Saint-Lazare in approximately 45-55 minutes. Most MBA, MiM and MSc students live on campus in single rooms costing EUR 480-720 per month including utilities. Larger flats with kitchen access run EUR 850-1,100 per month. Compared with central Paris rentals (EUR 1,400-2,000 for a studio), on-campus housing saves Indian students INR 8-12 lakh over the programme duration.
The campus runs on-site supermarket, three cafeterias including a halal-vegetarian station, two gyms, swimming pool, six tennis courts, a small football pitch and a chapel. The Indian Society (Kadamb has met with the current president each January since 2018) runs Diwali, Holi, Republic Day and an Indian career fair on campus. Cricket nets are limited but functional. Indian grocery stores in Versailles (15 minutes by car) and Antony (20 minutes) carry every staple from atta to MTR ready-mix.
Winters at Jouy-en-Josas are cold and damp (1-7 degrees Celsius from December to February). Summers are mild (15-25 degrees Celsius). Indian students from Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and the south coast typically take 2-3 months to adjust. We advise our admits to invest in a EUR 200-300 winter jacket from Decathlon or Uniqlo in their first month rather than carrying an inadequate Indian winter coat from home.
Post-study work, Talent Passport and the French PR pathway
HEC Paris graduates of any Master’s-level programme (MBA, MiM, MSc) qualify automatically for the Autorisation Provisoire de Sejour (APS), France’s 12-month post-study work permit. The APS does not require an employment offer to issue — you receive it when you collect your diploma. During the APS year, you can work full-time in France in any role.
Once you secure an employment offer paying above EUR 41,933 per year (the 2026 threshold), you can convert your APS into a Passeport Talent (“Talent Passport”), a four-year renewable work and residence permit. For Master’s-level graduates the threshold is reduced to EUR 41,933 (2x SMIC). For STEM and shortage-occupation roles the threshold drops further to roughly EUR 36,300. Most HEC Paris MBA grads exceed all thresholds in their first job by a wide margin.
After five years of legal residence in France (which can include your two MiM years or 16-month MBA), you become eligible for the French permanent resident card. The PR application requires B1 French language certification (CEFR B1 listening, speaking, reading and writing) and proof of stable income and integration. After an additional period (typically continuous residence and B1 French), you become eligible for French naturalisation and an EU passport.
For Indian alumni planning to move within Europe after a few years in France, the EU Blue Card transfer is an attractive option. Our EU Blue Card Indian Master’s Graduates 2026 guide details the rules. About one-third of Kadamb-tracked HEC alumni eventually move to Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands or the UK after 2-4 years in France.

Frequently Asked Questions
### Q1: What is the total cost of an HEC Paris MBA for Indian students in 2026?
The 16-month HEC Paris MBA tuition is EUR 95,800 (INR 86.2 lakh at 90 INR per EUR). Add mandatory fees of EUR 2,500, living costs of EUR 1,400-1,800 per month for 16 months (EUR 22,400-28,800), travel (INR 1.5-2 lakh for two round trips) and OFII tax (EUR 200). Total all-in cost lands at EUR 125,000-135,000 or INR 112-122 lakh before scholarships. Charpak, Eiffel and HEC Foundation scholarships routinely cut this by EUR 20,000-40,000 for Indian admits.
### Q2: What is the minimum GMAT for HEC Paris MBA admission from India?
HEC’s published minimum GMAT is 600 but practical Indian admit data shows 680+ is the realistic bar. Class median GMAT for MBA 2025 entry was 690. For MiM the median is 660, MSc International Finance 700, MSc Strategic Management 680. GRE accepted in place of GMAT (320+ equivalent for MBA).
### Q3: Is Campus France registration mandatory for HEC Paris?
Yes, mandatory and non-negotiable for every Indian applicant regardless of programme. Register on france-inde.campusfrance.org, pay INR 18,500, upload transcripts and admission letter, attend a video interview. This must be completed before you can book a VFS Global appointment for the visa. Kadamb handles the entire Campus France process for our students.
### Q4: What CGPA does HEC Paris require from Indian applicants?
HEC requires a 7.5/10 CGPA from a UGC-recognised Indian university for MiM and MSc programmes. For MBA the threshold is lower (around 7.0/10) but compensated by strong work experience. Class profile for 2025 entry showed median bachelor’s CGPA of 8.3/10 across the MiM cohort. WES converter benchmarks 7.5/10 to approximately 3.3/4.0 GPA.
### Q5: How much can I save with the Charpak Scholarship for HEC Paris?
The Charpak Scholarship covers EUR 5,000-10,000 toward tuition, plus travel grant (EUR 500-800), visa fee waiver, and CAF housing top-up worth up to EUR 200 per month. For an HEC MiM admit, total Charpak value reaches approximately EUR 12,000-14,000 (INR 10.8-12.6 lakh). The deadline is typically February for September intake.
### Q6: What is the difference between HEC MBA and HEC MiM?
The HEC MBA is a 16-month accelerated programme for experienced professionals with 3-8 years of work experience and a median age of 29-31. The MiM (Master in Management Grande Ecole) is a 2-3 year programme for fresh bachelor’s graduates aged 21-25, structured around a one-year company internship between foundation and specialisation years. MBA salary outcomes are higher (median EUR 99,000); MiM total cost is lower (EUR 49,250 vs EUR 95,800).
### Q7: Do HEC Paris programmes require French language?
No. All MBA, MiM and MSc programmes are taught fully in English. French at level A2 is highly recommended for daily life in Jouy-en-Josas and Paris but is not an admission requirement. Many MiM students pick up French to B1-B2 during the programme through HEC’s optional French courses. B1 French is required for French PR application after five years of residence.
### Q8: How long does the HEC Paris MBA application process take from India?
Allow 14-16 weeks from start to admission decision: 4 weeks for essay drafting and refinement, 1 week for application submission, 2 weeks for shortlist confirmation, 3-4 weeks for Kira Talent video interview scheduling and completion, 3-4 weeks for panel interview scheduling and final decision. Add another 12-14 weeks for Campus France registration, VFS appointment, visa processing and pre-departure. Start at least 7-8 months before September intake.
### Q9: Can my spouse work in France during my HEC Paris MBA?
Yes. The Talent Passport family member visa (“Famille”) gives your spouse the right to work in France for the duration of your residence. For HEC MBA applicants, this is a meaningful advantage over the US H-1B route where spousal work rights are more restricted. About one-third of Kadamb-advised married HEC MBA admits bring their spouse, who typically finds work in tech, finance, consulting or healthcare in Paris within 4-6 months.
### Q10: What is HEC Paris placement to Indian and international consulting firms?
For the 2025 graduating MBA class, 35 percent joined strategy consulting. McKinsey Paris hired 18 HEC MBA grads (median offer EUR 115,000), BCG Paris hired 16 (EUR 110,000), Bain Paris hired 11 (EUR 108,000). Tier-2 consulting (Roland Berger, OC and C, Kearney, PwC Strategy and) hired another 22. Indian alumni network is strong at McKinsey India, BCG India and Bain India for those who want to return to India post-MBA.
### Q11: Is HEC Paris worth it compared to ISB Hyderabad for an Indian MBA?
For most working Indians considering a global career in consulting, finance or luxury, HEC Paris offers stronger international placement and a more diverse cohort (135 nationalities vs ISB’s predominantly Indian class). HEC total cost is 3x ISB but post-MBA salary is also roughly 2.5-3x in EUR terms. For applicants targeting a senior role at an Indian unicorn or IIM-style domestic career, ISB is more capital-efficient.
### Q12: Can I apply to HEC Paris without GMAT or GRE?
HEC has run a GMAT/GRE waiver process for select MSc programmes during 2020-2024 for applicants with very strong academic backgrounds (CGPA 9.0+ from IIT or equivalent) and meaningful work experience. As of the 2026 intake, GMAT is required for MBA and MiM. Waivers continue to be possible case-by-case for MSc International Finance, MSc Strategic Management and MSc Sustainability and Social Innovation for IIT and BITS Pilani applicants with CGPA 8.5+.
### Q13: What is the HEC Paris admission rate for Indian applicants?
HEC publishes an overall admit rate of approximately 18 percent for MBA and 12 percent for MiM. For Indian applicants advised by Kadamb Overseas, the admit rate is 28 percent MBA and 32 percent MiM. The higher Kadamb admit rate reflects our pre-application screening — we only forward applicants whose profile meets the realistic bar.
### Q14: Are there scholarships specifically for HEC Paris women applicants from India?
Yes. The Forte Foundation Fellowship offers up to USD 50,000 (INR 41 lakh) for women MBA admits at HEC. The McCall MacBain Fellowship is open to women applicants in select MiM cohorts. The HEC Diversity Scholarship covers an additional 10-15 percent tuition waiver for women in the MBA and Executive MBA programmes. ### Q15: What happens if my France student visa is rejected after I get HEC admission?
Visa rejection after HEC admission is uncommon — Kadamb’s visa approval rate for France in 2024-25 was 89 percent. The most common rejection reasons are insufficient financial proof, weak Campus France interview, or unclear post-study intent. Kadamb pre-checks every document before VFS submission. In the rare case of rejection, you have 30 days to appeal, and Kadamb provides the appeal letter drafting and resubmission support at no additional cost.
### Q16: Can I work part-time during my HEC Paris MBA to fund living costs?
Yes. France permits international students to work up to 964 hours per year (approximately 20 hours per week). At French minimum wage (SMIC EUR 11.88 per hour in 2026), this generates EUR 11,460 per year (INR 10.3 lakh). For HEC MBA students, however, the academic load is intense and part-time work is uncommon during the academic months. Summer internships at EUR 1,500-2,500 per month are the more typical income source.
### Q17: What is the EUR to INR exchange rate impact on my HEC Paris budget?
At 90 INR per EUR (March 2026 spot), HEC MBA tuition of EUR 95,800 equates to INR 86.2 lakh. A 5 percent INR depreciation (to 94.5 INR per EUR) would increase the INR-denominated cost to INR 90.5 lakh, a delta of INR 4.3 lakh. Indian families funding from INR savings can hedge by buying EUR forward through HDFC Bank Forex, ICICI Bank Forex or Thomas Cook. Loans denominated in INR (SBI, HDFC Credila) eliminate currency risk for the loan portion.
### Q18: Does HEC Paris recognise Indian distance MBA or executive PGPM degrees?
HEC accepts UGC-recognised bachelor’s degrees as the entry credential, including distance learning bachelors from IGNOU, Annamalai University, NMIMS distance and similar institutions. Indian executive PGPM diplomas (XLRI, IIM EPGP, ISB PGP-PRO) are recognised but not required. Some HEC reviewers ask for a separate explanation of distance bachelor’s curriculum and coursework intensity. For Kadamb-advised distance bachelor applicants, we draft this supporting note as part of the application package.
