In Short

Here is what most students miss: because public tuition across much of Europe is already free or low, its best scholarships fund your living costs — monthly stipends, accommodation, travel and insurance — which is where the real expense lies. Win one flagship award, or stack a couple of university waivers, and a European degree can become almost free. We help you find the ones you can realistically win, and actually win them.

The Big OnesMajor European scholarships for Indian students (2026)

These are the awards worth building a plan around. Values change yearly — we confirm the current figures and deadlines for every one on your shortlist.

DAAD Scholarships
Germany · Flagship
Full funding: ~€934/month stipend + travel + insurance

The gold standard. The German Academic Exchange Service funds Master’s and PhD study with a monthly stipend, health insurance, travel and often a rent subsidy. Highly competitive and merit-based — for most Indian students, the single most valuable award to target.

Swedish Institute Scholarships (SISGP)
Sweden · Fully funded
Full tuition + SEK 10,000/month + travel + insurance

One of the most generous packages anywhere. Covers your entire tuition plus a living allowance, travel grant and insurance for a Master’s in Sweden — which is why Sweden’s higher tuition need not be a barrier for outstanding applicants.

Stipendium Hungaricum
Hungary · Full ride
Full tuition + free dormitory + ~€115/month stipend

A complete package across 30+ Hungarian universities, with around 200 places offered to Indian students each year. The deadline is mid-January, and it turns an already-affordable destination into an almost-free one — especially popular for medicine and engineering.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters
EU-wide · Fully funded
Full tuition + travel + generous living allowance

Prestigious EU-funded Master’s programmes delivered across multiple European countries, usually covering everything. Ideal for students open to studying in more than one country, and one of the most respected awards on any CV.

Charpak Scholarship
France · India-specific
Living stipends + fee waivers + visa-fee exemption

Run by the French Embassy specifically for Indian students. Offers monthly living stipends, tuition-fee waivers and visa-fee exemptions — a genuinely India-focused route that makes France far more affordable than its reputation suggests.

Eiffel Excellence Scholarship
France · Flagship
~€1,181/month + tuition + travel + insurance

France’s premier award for outstanding Master’s and PhD candidates, covering a generous monthly allowance plus tuition, travel and insurance. Applications are made by the host institution, so early planning is essential.

Finland Scholarship + waivers
Finland · Partial to full
50–100% tuition waivers + €5,000 relocation grant

Most Finnish universities award 50–100% tuition waivers inside the application form, and the Finland Scholarship adds a €5,000 first-year relocation grant. The University of Helsinki’s full scholarship even adds €10,000/year toward living.

Deutschlandstipendium
Germany · Merit + need
€300/month, co-funded by government & sponsors

Awarded directly by German universities and far more numerous than DAAD, so the odds are better. A reliable top-up for students already admitted to a German public university.

VLIR-UOS & Science@Leuven
Belgium · Fully/partly funded
~€1,150/month + tuition (VLIR-UOS); up to €12,000 (Leuven)

VLIR-UOS funds development-relevant Master’s with a monthly allowance plus tuition, travel and insurance for up to two years; KU Leuven’s Science@Leuven award covers tuition plus insurance for top science applicants.

Government of Ireland Scholarship
Ireland · Flagship
€10,000 stipend + full tuition-fee waiver

The most valuable Irish award, for selected Level 9/10 students, alongside Trinity Global Excellence (€2,000–5,000) and UCD Global Excellence (€5,000–10,000) tuition reductions.

ESKAS Swiss Government Excellence
Switzerland · Flagship
Full tuition + ~CHF 1,920/month

Switzerland’s premier scholarship, covering tuition plus a monthly living stipend for selected Master’s and PhD researchers — the way to make the world’s top-15 universities affordable.

Holland & Orange Tulip
Netherlands · Partial to full
€5,000 (Holland); partial–full (Orange Tulip, India-specific)

The Holland Scholarship is a €5,000 one-time award; the Orange Tulip Scholarship, offered via Nuffic Neso India, ranges from partial to full tuition and is specifically for Indian students.

DTU & Danish Government
Denmark · Fully funded
Full tuition + DKK 8,000/month (DTU)

DTU offers full tuition waivers plus a living stipend for outstanding non-EU MSc students, and the Danish Government allocates tuition waivers to each public university, with Copenhagen awarding 50–100% waivers in science and health.

University tuition waivers
Across Europe · Most winnable
25–100% tuition reductions on academic merit

The most numerous and most overlooked awards — Lund, KTH, Tartu, the Dutch universities, Nova SBE and dozens more grant merit waivers, usually decided inside the application form. These are often your best realistic shot.

How We HelpWinning a scholarship is a strategy, not a lottery

Finding scholarships is easy; winning them is not. Here is exactly how we turn a list of awards into funding in your account.

01

We audit your real chances

Not every scholarship is winnable for every student, and chasing the wrong ones wastes months. We assess your marks, field and profile and tell you honestly which awards you have a genuine shot at — and which are not worth the energy.

02

We build a stacked strategy

We treat funding as a portfolio, not a single bet: one ambitious flagship award as your reach, the university waivers you are realistically likely to win, and an education-loan plan to bridge the rest. Layering two or three is how students end up near-free.

03

We craft the application

Most scholarships are won or lost on the essay and the fit. We draw out your real story and shape a sharp, specific application — SOP, motivation letter, CV and references — that reads like you at your best, not a template.

04

We manage every deadline

Stipendium Hungaricum closes in mid-January; DAAD, Eiffel and the rest each have their own windows, and many waivers are decided inside the admission form. We track every date so you never miss a funded opportunity by a week.

05

We prepare you for interviews

Some awards (and the Campus France process for France) involve interviews. We prepare you to speak clearly about your goals and your fit, so you convert a shortlist into an offer.

Let’s find the money for your degree

Tell us your marks, budget and target field, and we’ll map every scholarship you have a real shot at — free, no obligation.

Insider TipsHow to actually improve your odds

  • Apply early, and to the university too. Many of the most winnable awards — university tuition waivers — are decided inside the admission form itself. Apply early and complete every optional scholarship field; students who skip them leave money on the table.
  • Strong academics are your biggest lever. Most flagship scholarships are merit-based. A strong, relevant academic record does more for your funding than almost anything else — and where your marks are borderline, we target the awards and universities where you still qualify.
  • Stack, don’t single-bet. The students who fund a degree do not win one big scholarship; they win a mix — a partial waiver here, a stipend there, part-time work, a small loan. We build that layered plan for you.
  • Write specific, not generic. Scholarship committees read hundreds of essays. A specific, honest statement that connects your background to the exact programme and your goals is what stands out — and what we help you write.
  • Watch the India-specific awards. Charpak (France) and the Orange Tulip (Netherlands) are designed for Indian students, and Stipendium Hungaricum reserves a large quota for India. These are often your strongest odds — and the ones generic advice overlooks.

Avoid TheseThe mistakes that cost students funding

Mistake 01

Applying to only one scholarship

The single most common mistake. Students pin everything on DAAD or one flagship, half-heartedly, and miss the university waivers and smaller awards that were far more winnable. Fund a degree by stacking, not by betting once.

Mistake 02

Missing the deadline

Scholarship deadlines rarely move, and many close months before university deadlines — Stipendium Hungaricum in mid-January, for instance. A brilliant application submitted a week late is worth nothing.

Mistake 03

Ignoring university waivers

Because they are decided quietly inside the admission form, students overlook the 25–100% tuition waivers that are often their best realistic shot. We make sure every waiver box is ticked.

Mistake 04

A recycled, generic essay

The fastest way to lose a competitive scholarship is a one-size-fits-all motivation letter. Committees spot it instantly. Specificity and honesty win funding.

AnswersScholarship questions we hear a lot

Are there fully-funded scholarships for Indian students in Europe?
Yes — several. The Swedish Institute Scholarships, Stipendium Hungaricum, DAAD, Erasmus Mundus, ESKAS (Switzerland) and the Government of Ireland scholarship are fully or near-fully funded, covering tuition and living costs. We help you target the ones you can realistically win.
Do European scholarships cover living costs, or just tuition?
This is what makes Europe different: because public tuition is often already free or low, the best scholarships fund your living costs — monthly stipends, accommodation, travel and insurance — which is where the real expense lies. Some (DAAD, SI, Stipendium Hungaricum) cover both.
Can I study in Europe almost for free?
For the right student, yes. Between free or low public tuition, a scholarship or waiver, and part-time work, many Indian students fund a European degree with a fraction of the loan a UK or US degree would demand — and some with almost no loan at all. We help you map exactly how.
Which scholarships are specifically for Indian students?
Charpak (France) and the Orange Tulip Scholarship (Netherlands) are India-specific, and Stipendium Hungaricum (Hungary) reserves a large annual quota for India. These often offer the strongest odds, and we make sure they are on your list.
When should I apply for scholarships?
Early — many scholarships close months before university deadlines (Stipendium Hungaricum in mid-January, for example), and university waivers are decided inside the admission form. Plan for a 10–12 month runway, which is exactly what our timeline mapping is for.
Do you charge to help with scholarships?
Your first consultation — where we assess which awards you can realistically win — is free. We would rather give you an honest read on your funding options before you commit to anything.
Do I need a very high GPA to win a scholarship?
A strong academic record helps for the flagship, merit-based awards, but not every scholarship demands top marks — income-based awards (Italy’s DSU), India-specific programmes and many university waivers are within reach of solid, mid-range profiles. We match you to the awards you actually qualify for.
